Kali on the Dell M3800

just installed Kali 2.0 on my new Dell m3800. Wanted to keep some notes on the install and everything that was required. Pertinent information about my laptop build/config:

  • I’m doing a dual boot with Windows 7/10
  • I bought the 4k screen upgrade
  • I have the Broadcom BCM4352 802.11ac wireless AC card
    1. Change Grub’s default screen resolution:
      echo "GRUB_GFXMODE=1024x768" >> /etc/default/grub
    2. Make Windows the default OS:
      echo 'GRUB_DEFAULT="Windows 7 (loader) (on /dev/sdab2)"' >> /etc/default/grub
    3. Grub failed to add Windows 7/10 to the boot list:
      update-grub;update-initramfs -u
    4. Broadcom Wireless Drivers:
      apt-get install broadcom-sta-dkms
    5. Broadcom Bluetooth Drivers (source):

    6. Pulse Audio:
      echo "pulseaudio --system -D &" >> ~/.bashrc
